La Tania is the newest resort in the vast Trois Vallées ski area, La Tania was initially developed in time for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, but has expanded significantly in the past decade. Located at a respectable altitude of 1,350 metres on the road that runs between Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz)and Méribel. La Tania is ideal place for those who are determined to ski the Trois Vallées, but are restricted to a tighter budget.
La Tania links into the Courchevelsector of the Trois Vallées via a gondola which runs up to Praz-Juget (1,867m), from where chairlifts take you on to the Col de la Loze (2,274m), from where you can ski down into the Meribel valley, or alternatively to Loze (2,196m) or Chenus (2,243m) from both of which you can ski down into ski terrain of Courchevel 1850.
At the end of the day the Moretta Blanche and the Folyeres runs are wonderful wide, steepish red cruising runs that take you back down to La Tania. However they are not suitable for beginners or early intermediates and the alternative blue run is also relatively tricky.
During a heavy snowfall or in flat light, the tree-lined slopes above La Tania provide some of the most enjoyable skiing in the whole of the Trois Vallées, but its position off the beaten track means that the area is always under-used.
Apres-Ski:
La Tania contains four reasonably priced restaurants including Pub Le Ski Lodge and La Taiga, which are described as welcoming and serve tasty, relatively inexpensive food. The restaurant in Hotel Montana serves local and international dishes. La Tania’s nightlife has much improved in recent years: the resort boasts a handful of bars with a relaxed atmosphere, headed by Pub Le Ski Lodge, which has live music on Tuesday nights.
