In the past few years, the Mayrhofen Cable Car Company has won many awards – including overall winner in the International Ski Resort Test 04/05. Here, in the middle of the Zillertal Alps, there's an appropriate area "with snow guarantee" for every board length and width. With the Mayrhofen Ski pass winter freaks have 157km of slopes of every level of difficulty, 49 lifts and guaranteed snow up to 2,500 m at their disposal. In the Ahorn ski field a descent on the Harakiri, Austria's steepest ski run, or on the 5.5 km longest downhill valley run with artificial snow in the Zillertal, is not for the weak-kneed. Boarders and free skiers can prove their performance in Burton Park Mayrhofen.
Hintertux and Mayrhofen ski resorts are located in the scenic Zillertal Valley, southeast of Innsbruck in Tyrol province. Linked with the Finkenberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm ski areas, they make up the gigantic Ski-Zillertal 3000 region, with approximately 500kms of superb slopes on offer. The Hintertux Glacier has the added advantage of affording year round skiing.
Mayrhofen is the main resort town, located far beneath the ski runs at just 630m above sea level. It is a beguiling town, permeated with whitewashed mountain houses and wooden balconies, and offering a plethora of interesting shops, from fashionable boutiques to craft workshops.
