Obergurgl is renowned as The Diamond in the Alps, a traditional Austrian mountain resort. A very snow sure resort, open from mid November to the beginning of May and with a stunning snow record. Piste grooming is immaculate and the whole resort is linked between the two vast ski areas of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl. Queue and crowd free even during the peak weeks of the season, the resort provides an opportunity for a stress free and unbelievably scenic ski experience. Obergurgl is a great resort for mixed groups of skiers and non skiers as many of the mountain huts are reachable by foot and lift without the need for skis. For those who crave even greater ski excitement, a 10 Euro addition to the lift pass secures a day's skiing in nearby Solden.
Simple to get to, Obergurgl is serviced by direct flights from Gatwick to Innsbruck by British Airways and Easyjet and the airport is under 90 minutes from the resort.
Activities possible in the resort include extensive cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice skating, toboganning, horse riding in a purpose built indoor arena and there are also a range of spas available.
Apres Ski
Fun apres ski is led by the Europe renowned Neder Hut famed for dancing on the table in ski boots with live bands from 4pm.
In the evenings in Obergurgl half a dozen bars and almost as many dance venues stay open until late. Fassl is a barrel-shaped bar that serves different flavours of Schnapps. Regulars to the resort and locals rate the Josl-Keller as having the best atmosphere. Krump'n' Stadl is the crowded and noisy option for the real party people.
Obergurgl is a genuine family resort with cosy mountain huts and a range of apres ski activities from night clubs to a purpose made 25 minute sledge run, night skiing twice a week and a spectacular firework and ski show demonstration by the Ski School on Tuesdays.
