Morzine sits in the Haute Savoie region of France just over an hour from Geneva airport, making it one of the most accessible ski resorts to visit!
The Morzine Valley is a snow heaven surrounded by forest and high quality off-piste combined with excellent learning grounds for beginners. It also provides many varied routes to the rest of the Portes du Soleil’s resorts via the modern cable car of the Prodains, the bubble of Super-Morzine and Ardent lift stations.
It was originally a small farming and mining town and since the installation of the first Pleney cable car in 1934, Morzine has grown into a vibrant ski resort for all nationalities. Very few buildings are above four floors, allowing the resort to keep its traditional charm and for this reason it remains a firm favourite with the English, along with the skiing and après of course. Plus it is great value for money!
Aside from fantastic skiing for all abilities, Morzine has plenty for non-skiers. There are a variety of restaurants, a great après scene offering sports bars for the football and rugby, cocktail and wine bars and clubs to boot shuffle into the early hours. The resort has two cinemas and a swimming pool complex as well as it’s very own ice hockey team aptly named The Penguins! Non-skiing activities such as paragliding, snow-mobiling and husky dog sledging are all possible, making the resort versatile for any group wishing to visit.
This season more than ever, Morzine is cementing itself as a true luxury resort alongside better known resorts in the Espace Killy, Mont Blanc and Three Valleys regions. Boasting a far quicker commute from Geneva, traditional village charm, skiing for the whole family plus quick accessibility into higher and more demanding neighbouring resorts, we have no doubt that Morzine will continue to creep it’s way up on our guests list as a must visit resort for their next skiing trip!

We were lucky enough to speak with Claire Garber, Head of Marketing and PR for these exclusive boutique luxury chalets in Morzine.
Claire moved from London to Morzine 3 years ago after spending the best part of a decade flying between the two. She has been skiing for 3 years, snowboarding for 7 and never seems to get bored of either one!
“I moved to Morzine because I fell in love with it, the very first moment I arrived. From the views, the mountains, even the smell of the mountain air – I felt like I had come home so really there was no other choice!”
For those visiting the resort this season, here’s Claire’s recommendations on all things Morzine!
Best Restaurant?
One restaurant I am particularly fond of is Le Grange. It’s tucked away off the main high street, owned by a French- English family. It combines rustic alpine tradition with a little something else and I like the heart they have put into the place. Reserve the table next to the open fire in the main restaurant – it’s bliss after a snowy day on the mountains.
Best Après?
The Bec Jaune, Morzine’s microbrewery – eclectic décor, even more eclectic clientele and truly amazing home brewed beer! They also make a mean pulled pork burger which is almost impossible to resist.
Favourite Ski Run?
The Coupe de Monde in Avoriaz is an amazing run and so often forgotten by tourists or avoided because of its black rating. But off it are several powder bowls and some amazing stretches of off-piste complete with alpine forest runs and even the odd mountain stream you’ll need to jump across. Impossible to get bored.
Best time to the year to visit Morzine in your opinion?
I’m am currently still in the height of summer love. The mountains in morzine are breathtakingly beautiful in the summer months. You can walk just about anywhere, hike to the peaks of your favourite winter mountains, swim in mountain lakes, sleep under the stars … it is an eternal and never-ending playground.
Any advice for people visiting Morzine?
Summer or winter, for me, I am constantly thrilled by living on the border of two countries. That you can ski from France into Switzerland, that you can hike and run along the borders, that you can picnic at the top of a peak and see three countries before you (Italy is a stones throw too!). It endlessly fascinates me. I’m off running up there tomorrow morning and I would recommend any tourist get as high up as possible and cross those borders!
