With the installation of the new Flexenbahn cableway, the Arlberg region of Austria will join the World’s Top 5 largest interconnected ski areas, boasting 305km of linked runs. This is bigger than the infamous L’Espace Killy region, consisting of the well-known French resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isere!
Opening ready for the 16/17 ski season, the cable system will be able to transport up to 2,400 passengers per hour over the Flexenpass road, providing breathtaking views of the Klostertal valley and towards the Arlberg pass / St. Christoph.
The addition of the Flexenbahn cableway not only means quicker, easier access between the well-loved St. Anton and St. Christoph, Stuben, Zürs, Lech, Oberlech, Schröcken and Warth, but it will reduce the regions’ carbon footprint significantly. Bus trips between Zürs and Stuben/Alpe Rauz are expected to reduce by 120 each day!
Another added benefit is that the Arlberg ski pass will also include 36m of runs in the smaller nearby areas of Sonnenkopf or Pettneu (although not linked) to give a total of 340km.
The Arlberg region has long been regarded as world-famous with some of the best off-piste skiing to be found in all of the Alps. Although some of the marked slopes can be more challenging than some of the French Resorts, there are stunning tree-lined cruisy blue runs in Lech and Zurs. All of the resorts are beautiful traditional villages and well, if the legendary Austrian apres has not been enough of a draw for you to visit the Arlberg region yet, now may just be the time!
